STRONG INTRODUCTION FOR WOMEN'S KABADDI
This was the first year where the IC women’s kabaddi team faced a string of competitive matches against other universities. Never before had an inter-university fixture been played in the UK and we were proud to be spear-heading the expansion of women’s kabaddi in the country.
We got off to a cracking start and won our first ever match against LSE girls with ease. Continuing our success, we defeated both Birmingham and LSE at the Kabaddi Cup and were crowned the champions. Our year of experience and superior awareness on the pitch was evident, but our level of play also provided a clear goal for LSE to aim for. It was therefore no surprise that each time we faced the LSE team, they were improving exponentially.
It wasn’t until NHSF London zones that we realised how much they had upped their game, resulting in a loss for our team. However, this loss only sparked a much-needed hunger for revenge, which will follow us through into 2017.
Aside from our competitive matches, Anisha and I were determined to keep training sessions relaxed but fruitful. From the ridiculous warm-up relays, the consistent roasting of Praj and the pure joy of being taught by Keshav, each of the girls enjoy our sessions for the kabaddi and the bants. As a result, we have seen the girls bond as a team, and we’re proud to say that we see each other as friends as well as team mates.
Next term, we will come back fighting, and there is no doubt we’ll regain our title as the best women’s kabaddi university team in the country.
